Explore a whole new world of tone with the Earthquaker Devices Data Corrupter, the new monophonic harmonizing PLL. Hand-built to order in Akron Ohio, with the ability to multiply the signal, you can now turn your electric guitar or keyboard into a three-voice synthesizer and create vast square wave fuzz tones.
The Master Oscillator is the heart of the Data Corrupter; a three position switch labeled roots determines the input to the oscillator, and can accept unison, one octave down, or two octaves down. The Master Oscillatorβs Root switch allows you the ability to fine tune the tracking response, making the Data Corruptor compatible with a variety of instruments.
After the input octave is chosen, the Data Corruptor begins its conversion to create the synthesized frequency, an eight selector rotary switch allows you to select the octave or interval of the synthesized frequency. You can blend between the input signal and synthesized frequency with the Voice Mixerβs Oscillator control.
Use the Frequency Modulator to apply pitch-bend modulation to the Master Oscillator. If Glide Mode is activated, youβll hear a smooth portamento from note to note. In Vibrato Mode, a sci-fi laser effect can be be created by modulating pitch up and down.
The Subharmonic can create layers of depth below the unison signal. The input signal is split between one and three octaves below the unison. For a pure and stable lower octave, set the subharmonic root switch to the unison position, which will remove the Frequency Modulator from the subharmonic signal path.
Combine the Master Oscillator, Subharmonic and Frequency Modulator, apply them to the upper and lower octaves to create a mangled sci-fi/video game/dark fuzz effect. For a tone that is out of this world, try experimenting with different Master Oscillator and Subharmonic Programs, as Earthquaker Devices puts it, βwind up the doomsday clock.” You can control the overall fuzz tone with the Square control on the top-left dial on the voice mixer.
